Another day...

Hello all! Sorry for not updating as much as we should. As Becky mentioned previously, illness has struck some of our family, so we've been scrambling the past few days. Randy (Mom's brother) who normally stays with her at night has come down with the flu, as well as Becky. So please keep them in your thoughts and prayers also so they will have a speedy recovery! I am doing much better. Still sore but trucking right along. I wanted to personally thank everyone for all of their concern and prayers for me these past couple of weeks. Thank you!!!

As for Mom, she seems to be progressing a little more each day. They have been continuing to place her on Cpap ( a weaning step from the vent) a little longer each day, and she is tolerating it really well. She has started to take SMALL amounts of pureed foods and seems to be doing well with that also. She's had a little trouble with nausea and vomiting these past couple of days, but we're hoping it is nothing major. One big thing she started doing today is using the bedpan a little. It's funny how such simple things mean so much! Who would have ever guessed that using a bedpan would be great news!!! Other than that, we just hope for small steps of improvement everyday. We know that there will be bumps in the road, but as long as there are no major detours we will be O.K. Again we thank you all for everything you have done and continue to do. Please continue to post your comments as we ALL enjoy reading them.

With Much Love,
Holly

Sarah Brazee texted me a few days ago wanting me to ask Vicki for "that chocolate bundt cake recipe she made for Relief Society back at Christmas." I said, "Sarah, honey, Vicki is still in very serious condition in the hospital and I can't ask them for a cake recipe right now." Sarah says, "WELL MAYBE THEY NEED TO FIX VICKI SOME OF HER CHOCOLATE BUNDT CAKE AND IT WILL MAKE HER ALL BETTER." (It's THAT good...she says.) hahaha
We love you guys...ALL of you. Thinking of you all day.....HUGS..Debbie Brazee

You all are one incredible family! I am so glad I know you! On Friday morning I felt prompted to extend and intensify the prayers for all the family members, so I called back to the Columbia Temple, and gave quite a number of individual families' names. I had not known that anybody was sick or 'newly sick' . But really it stands to reason, since the move to Bristol introduced you to a lot of new germs. I admit my thinking only extended to the boundaries of Rotherwood Ward, so I'll be calling Columbia again on Monday with the family of Randy & Cheryl Kiss.
It is marvelous that Vicki is making good steady progress. I hope all the family and all the 'rest of us' will think about how to pace ourselves. Since this is like a six month cross country marathon (rather than a sprint to the finish line), we each have to find that balance point that includes work
(to live), home care, child care, attention to our marriages and friendships, and time for ourselves. I remember some years ago David Golden spoke about how much more energy he had found when he began to exercise regularly, and few people we know have excelled at keeping extensive commitments to work/church/family/others as well as he.
It is wonderful to hear from all of you.

Our family continues to think about and pray for Vikki daily. We check the blog often and enjoy reading about her wonderful progress. Keep it up Mrs. Vikki! You are soooo strong! I certainly couldn't do this.

Hugs to all from the Flanary/Westbrooks Families.
